A blog for all things tasty
The curiosity was killing me, so I went to
The ambiance is contemporary and sleek, but comfortable. There is bar seating, lounge seating, and traditional table seating. And since one of the owners is an architect, spatial design is very well thought out. You notice geometric patterns contrasted with convex line structuresappealing and warm. Further, there is a rotating art display (you can buy some of the art work) that will change every few months. sat at the bar and had the shrimp ceviche. It was a fun dish, and I was given chopsticks and a fork. Next time I ask for a knife because I wasn quite there without it. They also have lobster ceviche, which is pretty cool, considering most places that offer this kind of ceviche in town stick to the traditional fish options (Kisso also offers these).
I was told that the Pad Thai is a must, so I tried a few bites. It was delicious. The menu has local interpretations of Japanese, Thai, and Chinese food for a variety of tastes: noodles rice dishes, sushi rolls, sashimi, tempura, gyozas, lettuce wraps, and more. For example, my ceviche was topped with passionfruit, cucumber, and cilantro. And the lobster ceviche comes with mango and heart of palm. Carlos and Raul took care of me with the utmost attention and perception. And as far as prices go, as with many other places you can spend $15 or $75 (they have a $64 Kobe ribeye with yuzu cilantro sauce). in all, this is the kind of place where you can spend hours with family and friends talking up a storm and tantalizing your tastebuds. It sophisticated enough to make you feel like you treating yourself to a nice experience without being overly stiff or expensive. I will go again. I kind of curious about their tempura Kobe tartare.
One must be easily impressed to find this place attractive. This kind of harsh and cold industrial design, so popular in big cities in the 1990s and strangely just catching on here in El Paso, nike free tilbud, is uncomfortable and unwelcoming. If one of the owners is an architect, he or she better keep her identity secret.
The food here is bizarre, just another interpretation of what I call "Juarez Sushi", a local recreation of Asian dishes with no respect for the tradition that made them great. Kisso is about as "Asian" as Wendy sweet and sour chicken wings. Kobe beef? A pointless fad reserved for the nuevo riche.
Service was disappointing, we waited forever for lunch and one in our party had to leave as she was served due to a meeting.
Jennifer, thank you for being Frank in your post. I ha e to say that sometimes I err on the side of diplomacy, so it great for my opinions to be complemented by others whether we agree or not as it makes for a more substantial picture. My experiences at both of these places have been somewhat inconsistent, and with all of the factors that play into a single experience I believe in second chances, especially when I see potential. But ultimately time will tell. Keep on posting; your comments are great as they are frank but productive.
